Welcome

Gillespie Racing

Thank you for visiting our website, we thought it might be a bit of fun to share some of our experience with you, we have been racing speedway in New Zealand for 45 years, with sidecars and solo bikes.

Fraser

Fraser started racing sidecars at the age of 23 at Oreti Park Speedway, Invercargill as a swinger with Steve Mowat. Soon got the urge to ride his own bike which was a BSA rocket 3 - first swinger was Doug Fox. They built the sidecar themselves and was the beginning of a life long passion.

Fraser also raced solos (JAP and a Jawa) at the same time. Frasers swingers have change over the years and they include Lyndsay Cullen, his brother Andy Gillespie, Wayne Tuffley (3 races). Fraser retired for ten years while the track was out of commission and started back again in 1998 with Ian McCormack, Doug Fox (from Te Anau - 2 race) followed by Dave Uitentuis and currently Nigel Cuckow.

Jake

Jake has been racing solos since the age of 10 at Oreti Park Speedway.

He started on his 200 honda on the small track and has moved onto a 250 laydown Jawa and races on the 400 meter track. He competed at Moore park at the age of 12 and came second in the MNZ title for juniors.

He has won the Ivan Mauger academy twice. Jake was approached by FIM and invited to attend a training academy in Melbourne Australia in 2010 along with Jack McCrae from Oreti Park Speedway.

He won the Southland Junior (200cc) in 2011. Unfortunately Jake is out of action for the rest of the 2012 season due to a serious accident while racing at the 2011 Burt Munro Challenge at Oreti Park.
